What's the difference between
auto-dial and no-dial phones?

  • Most auto-dial phones will automatically call a pre-programmed number when the handset is lifted or a button is pressed. The number can be changed remotely by calling the phone number that the phone is connected to, and entering a security code. They do not have a touchtone pad, and are line-powered -- no battery or AC power is needed.
  • Some auto-dial phones can be programmed to call several alternate numbers if the main number is not answered. Some phones have buttons to call different numbers for different reasons. Some phones have hands-free speakerphones instead of handsets. Some phones are pre-programmed to dial 911 only. Some phones have weather-resistant construction for outdoor installation.
  • No-dial phones can be used for answer only applications, or for automatic dialing when connected to a ring-down circuit, tie line, or a phone system programmed for automatic dialing.
